Hello fellow Groupies! We are very happy to announce that the judges have come to a decision on the winners of the Tomb Raider: Memories Competition! We have deliberated tirelessly and have come to a deliberation and without further ado, we bring to you the winners of our contest.

Before viewing the entries, we want you all to know that this was such a close run for so many entries and we only wish there could of been more spots to place in. We are so happy and thankful for each and every participant in our contest.

Please highlight the place titles to open the boxes (this is so no one is spoiled of knowing the winners right away).

First Place

The title of first place goes to ArtisticAdventures . They showed the epitome of Tomb Raider; Adventure, exploration, danger, traps and did it in such a way that it spoke to the judges profoundly and even encouraged us to pick up the classics again for another fun round! It was for these reasons that ArtisticAdventures  won first place amongst so many wonderful entries.

Poised for the Strike by ArtisticAdventures

Second Place

The title of second place goes to JhoCorrea. Dangerous and exiting, he has shown one of the core memories of Lara, the thrill of the gunplay, and the fear that filled all tomb raiders young and old alike that crept on them from the enemies and the environment. With a very close tie in to first place, JhoCorrea has displayed a wonderful portrayed of Lara and her amazing tomb raiding.

Third Place

The title of third place goes to amherman. Wonderfully accurate to the personality of Lara; adventurous, daring, lively, dangerous, and intimidating. amherman has created a unique art style and atmosphere of Lara and Tomb Raider that needed to be rewarded as such.

wooow!

thank you so very much guys! :la:

I really have to thank the team from Tomb Raider Groupies for doing this competition,if it wasn't for this,I would probably never get back to using 3DS max again lol! It made me feel very fresh after all this time without creating a render to finally do that again,I love the process.

And it's in competitions like this that people get to really showcase their artwork and everybody gets a recognition, even if they didn't win.
All the entries have something special about them,I love every single one of them,is like every entry showcased different elements from TR,the ones we love.

Thank you again, and I'm really looking forward to other competitions from this group,it was really  cool and fun :D

There are so many wonderfully talented artists that belong to this group, and I personally want to congratulate each of them on their AMAZING entries! Congratulations on your winnings of first place. Yes, there were quite a lot of great entries and this made is so difficult for the judges to pick winners but fortunately, through our number judging system, it really helped the judging field by a ton and made it more accurate. And everyone who ever wins first place doesn't think they deserve it. I mean this when I said this, you deserved it. You kept true to our contingents, down to the ability of cutting Lara out of the picture for the group's greeting, to even the true heart of what Tomb Raider is.

And if someone says something rude and unjust to you, please do ignore them as jealousy and frustration are the pure motives behind their hateful words. Don't let any words or anyone keep you from thinking you didn't do a great job, and that goes for all the winners and honorable mentions! :highfive:

When I saw that the group staff will be judging this contest I've figured something like this might happen. You don't have to go too far to see how "honest" this vote was. Just look at the first and the second place. RLY? JhoCorrea's work is worse than the first one? I think favoritism took place here, maybe.
There were plenty works for this contest that deserve 1 and 3 places much more that the ones that got them, and they didn't even make it to the honorable mentions. And my works were one of them. Many of you will think of me as an egoist and a moaner becouse I talk about my works not getting any of the places, but I didn't find myself on a scrapyard and my works aren't done in 2 minutes. There are many authors like me. Authors who spent weeks if not more to make something that actually looks good. And what do we get?

Do you ever see random people judge contests? Individuals who aren't participants? No, you don't. We don't want impartiality at any turn. If the contestants voted for entries, well, you do the math.

And this vote was very honest. In fact, second place almost won first place. It was literally by one point that it won. As well, there was not a shred of favoritism here. Each judge used the classic and most used judging system in the world: The number system. This was to prevent anyone from being favored or not fairly judged.

That's okay, you're free to your own opinion but the judges didn't based on what look prettiest, or what was the most skilled. We based on three important pillars of artwork and of Tomb Raider and this is the conclusion we came to. No one's entry is any worse than another, as while that was your mindset, it was not ours. I would also advise you that while you are free to say your opinion, you should either say it in a nicer way as it's never fair or just to say someone didn't deserve something when solely based upon one's opinion and not fact. Not only does it discourage artists from participating, but it puts a misplaced stain on the artist's work and name. The best way to avoid spreading negativity is to not say it at all.

As well, the real issue here is that you didn't place. Jealously is a nasty thing but gets the better of us all on an occasion. I must say though, who are you to say that someone didn't spend months on a piece versus you who spent weeks? What makes someone's entry better? Those were the exact questions we didn't ask because they are unfair questions to ever ask of any artist. And I am pretty sure you do not understand contest or competition or how they work. Competitions aren't about who is better, ever. That's not how they work. They are dependent whole-heartedly on how well each and any entry fit into the competition. They are about the rules and regulations of the contest. If one or any entry didn't follow the rules, they number for that particular category won't be high. I won't go into each category for the number system as we do not need to justify our judging at all. But I will tell you this, there are people who didn't place that are purely happy just because they participated. If you're entire ambition was to win, that's most likely why you didn't win and why your entries possibly reflected such emotion.

I've already had to warn one person today about bad attitudes and confounded accusations, as we do not tolerate it in our group what so ever. If you can show maturity and a level-headed about this, we shall leave this issue here and not further reply regarding the nonsensical issue of 'Mine's better!!!11! That person won, it's not fair!!!11!'. If not, you unfortunately will have the same outcome of those who have spread nasty arrogance and attitudes for no rational reason. I don't want to do that, as I'm sure you are capable of rising to the challenge and being the bigger person in this situation of adversity for you. :)

"I didn't say your work looks good or bad. I'm just saying JhoCorrea's better." He forgot to put, in my opinion. And it wasn't his opinion or anyone's opinion that won anything here today. ;)

To be honest, I can understand why :iconbmfreed: is angry. I don't know if my own work really deserved a better result,
skatingjesus.deviantart.com/ar…
skatingjesus.deviantart.com/ar…

But I still think the overall results are a bit strange. I totally agree that the picture which got the 2nd prize deserved the 1st one, IMO. Far better than any of the other submissions. I would like to look again at all the contest entries, but strangely, the contest folder had been erased, so it's impossible to look again. Strange again.

Well, it's not a very serious problem, it's just a picture contest, but as far as I remember, there was a lot of works submitted for the contest which, I think, deserved a better fate (And I don't talk about my own stuff, I can understand judges didn't enjoy it). But that contest is about the 10th one I entered with my 3D pictures, and even in the past, I wasn't always OK with results, I just admitted my defeat and sincerely congratulated the winners. But here, it's simply the first time I saw so many contenders being so mad about the results. I don't think they are "bad losers", as we say in french, but yes, final results were cleary not what I expected.

Admins should recreate the Contest folder, to allow contenders to see again their rival works, because now, with the folder being erased, it makes all the story a bit more suspicious.

Hope nobody will get mad about what I just said, it's just my opinion. And if there will be a new contest in the future, I will be happy to participate again.

To BMFreed, two things:

1) As Sarah said, voting was done on a three category system focusing on whether or not the piece met the contest's theme and chosen category. We didn't say, prettiest picture wins: this is about nostalgia and Memories. Every vote was done without bias and the total points per piece helped decide. We didn't just choose them by hand: they were analyzed via a point system. We wanted a piece that made us say: that's a great Tomb Raider memories right there! *Ah, the good old days.*

2) Secondly, don't draw the conception that 3D art is automatically better than 2D. Just because it is newer and flashier doesn't make it better. Yes, it looks fantastic, but for these purposes, the theme of memories and nostalgia, traps and danger, puzzles, exploring were the focus, not ultimate realism. Personally, when I looked at Jen's piece, I immediately was taken back to my youth playing TRII reliving those moments. That's why it's on the top.

This contest was done in all fairness and love for the community. As staff of TRG, we want to bind the community together by sharing a passion we all truly love. This is just for fun: sure, publicity with Stella is involved, but that's because the winners deserve such. Thank you.

The user linked you mentioned, is upset he didn't win. Plain and simple. As I told him, jealousy is a nasty thing that we all come to succumb to every now and then. But does that make it right? No, it doesn't. And honestly, there was only one other contender (the one you mentioned who was angry). Anyone else was only an on-looker and really doesn't have a place to talk in the competition as they didn't even participate. To better put what happened in this competition, I'll put what I said to him so you'll understand better and clarify a few things for you:

"And this vote was very honest. In fact, second place almost won first place. It was literally by one point that it won. Each judge used the classic and most used judging system in the world: The number system. This was to prevent anyone from being favored or not fairly judged.

That's okay, you're free to your own opinion but the judges didn't based on what look prettiest, or what was the most skilled.  Everyone is entitled to their own opinions but the difference is here today, is that the judging wasn't based on opinions but fact. A lot will may or may not have a hard time understanding that as ironically, the ones that based decisions on opinion are showing favoritism over the ones that decide based on fact. We didn't judge based on who's what better or what was more appealing, or what was more skilled, because that's not what competitions are about. They are exactly about what was stated in the previous paragraph.

There's nothing suspicious about us moving the entries to another folder. You can find the entries to the contest in the Special Events, sub folder, TRG Previous Contest Entries at any time.

There were no dishonest votes in this competition. Each and every judge voted to to the best of their own merit. We even did the classic number system that places in most competitions around the world.

As well for your poor attitude, we don't tolerate hateful remarks, of any kind towards anyone, be they member or administrator, watcher or deviant. You don't have to like first place, and your are entitled to your own opinion, but that's where it ends. You don't not have the right to place a stain on an artist's name and artwork due to opinion and not fact.

For this reason, you will be banned from the group. Maybe in a week or so, when you cool off, you'll be allowed into the group. In the mean time, perhaps you should really think about your hasty, cruel, and dishonest words before mouthing off again.
